Re-enactment Of Historic Event

On Thursday 18th November children at Whitcliffe Primary School will re-enact a famous event from their Schools history. Actually the story relates to Skinningrove school but both schools have been amalgamated and children of Skinningrove and Carlin How all attend Whitecliffe. Whitecliffe has the logbooks of both schools going back over 140 years and one entry states;“school evacuated on the occasion of a Zeppelin sighted overhead. The children will re-enact this momentous event and Inspector Charlie Bell of Cleveland Police will play the part of the calm voice of authority leading the children to shelter in the mines (this actually took place too – many Skinningrovers took shelter in the mines during both world wars. This will form the audio track of an animated film  “Tommy and Barry Go Back” to be premiered at Saltburn Community Theatre,Animex Fringe on February 10th 2011.

Captain Kirk Flies The Zeppelin

Straad Kirk has been cast in the role of the captain of the Zeppelin that will fly over Skinningrove School re-enacting an event that took place nearly 100 years ago. Unlike the actual Zeppelin of 1915 the one Kirk will be flying has a fully stocked bar. Clearly the cast will be frequenting this craft regularly. This is part of the filming of “Tommy and Barry Go Back”to be premmiered at Saltburn Community Theatre,Annimex Fringe on February 10th 2011.

Upstairs @ Destinations

Whilst enjoying a coffee in Destinations you could hardly imagine what is going on upstairs. The Redcar and Cleveland Mind team have been working on their script and cast of characters for a new animated film “The Times They Are a Changing”. Today was the first day of production and a shooting schedule has been developed for coming weeks. There’s a preview below and a picture of the team. Ignore the sellotape this is merely a screen test. You will be able to see the finished film as part of the Animex Fringe event at Saltburn Community Theatre on February 10th 2011.

European Event

On Thursday 11th February Destinations helped host The Community Animation event in Saltburn. The event was simul-casted and simul-blogged accros the UK ond even areas of Europe since we have made a number of connections with European learning venues recently. The day was a tremendous successes with a full house for the matinee (in which we hooked up with children and police in Latvia) and around 80 people for the evening event. We even made it onto Latvian National TV !

You can relive the event on the blog at www.saltburn.org.uk . As well as the hook-up with Latvia, the event was followed by people in Greece,Lithuania,Poland,Turkey,Sweden,Finland and the UK.

The event saw the world premier of “The Force is With You” made with the local Police, residents of East Cleveland,Whitecliffe Primary School in Carlin How,Destinations and Teesside University. You can enjoy the new film here. Its a bit of fun but has a serious social point to make and uses ICT to reflect some of the feelings and concerns of our local communities.

We were delighted that the Mayor of Redcar &Cleveland and also The Mayor of Loftus came along as well as representatives from the Coucil, the police,Business Link and even some European guests from Finland, who of course we introduced to MyGuide.

If you would like to follow more of te event and see pictures, film, sound and even a clip from Latvian TV,just click here.

Community Beacon Award

Community Beacon Award

Paul and Steve received their Beacon award at a ceremony at Ofcom headquarters in London. Presenting the award,Robin Blake,Head of Media Literacy at Ofcom, said:  “The internet is no longer a place where we passively consume information provided by others.  New technologies are empowering all of us to produce our own information, talk about the issues that matter to us,gather support and make real changes not just to our own lives but to the lives of those around us.  Making sure everybody, everywhere can get expert support in understanding and using those technologies is vital, and UK online centres can play a major role in opening up new media options for more people in more communities.  It’s vital we capture and share best practice, and I’m looking forward to seeing the Community Media Beacons light the way for other communities.”
