Really great use of IT and some new media. Some of the folks stayed back to start Go-On and learn more IT skills. This will help them understand how the internet can help them investigate the area and their own families past.

This group has had a website set up by the former chair who is now retired (see right). For a long time they have been unable to edit this website and approached me to do something about this. We have set up some webspace currently shared with two other community groups. This space will eventually replace and become East Cleveland Online and will eventually be the web home of up to 20 community projects. By sharing the cost of hosting in this way they will be more sustainable.

During Get Online Week, we were part of a roadshow which highlighted the plight of rural areas with poor broadband who were unable to make the most of being online. One of the villages involved is also part of out Outreach project, Moorsholm, and we were able to bring examples of how getting online can bring benefits to everyone in the Village. Also at the event, called “Cant Get Online Week” was our local MP, Tom Blenkinsop who offered his support to the project and promised to pursue all initiatives that helped get rural areas online.

Saltburn is creating a Partnership Board

Saltburn Partnership Board is made up of approximately 10 -15 people who represent different fields of interest in and around Saltburn – these individuals represent clusters of interest, and as such, act as a conduit between Saltburn Community Groups, the Saltburn Partnership Board and the Local Authority. The development of Saltburn Partnership Board has been encouraged by Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council with the aim of bringing a partnership of Saltburn’s public and private sectors together to create a successful town centre to benefit all. The Partnership Board will act to provide a strategic focus and this focus will fit into local strategic themes:

Regeneration

Health and Well Being

Stronger Communities

Children and Young People

Safer Communities

What does this mean for me?

This means that you have representation when decisions are being made about our town at a strategic level. For example, if you are a member of the 500 Club, there is a 500 Cub member on the Partnership Board, so if you have a brilliant idea for Saltburn or a concern, you can take it to this representative who in turn, will bring it on your behalf to the Partnership Board Meetings. The groups represented on the Partnership Board cover the themes mentioned above – the Police are there, as are the Saltburn Business Association, Tees Valley Leisure and groups like the Arts Association.

To find out more about the Partnership Board, there will be an open public meeting, details below;

Venue:            Saltburn Community Centre

Date:               11th October 2011

Time:              7.00pm till 8.30pm

so that you can get the opportunity to find out more about it. If you have any queries or want to know further information please e-mail the Saltburn Partnership Board Workers – Sue Anderson on sue@beallyoucan.co.uk or Paul Davies on p.davies347@ntlworld.com

Production has begun again after the Christmas break on “Tommy and Barry Go Back”. We lost a lot of production days before Christmas to weather condition and ill health so we have postponed the world premiere to March 3rd. It’s the same venue, Saltburn Community Theatre at 7.30pm. We moved our production location to Destinations in Saltburn as a more convenient location. Yesterday we got some very tricky shots in the can including Zeppelin flying and Chilean rescue pod maneuvering!

Next production day is Friday 21st (Destinations Again) when we hope to finish the 1945 Jetty scene. Below are some stills from scene 6.
